Wahoo KICKR iPhone
KICKR on iPhone — watts, not SYSTM
zCycle Pad is a Wahoo KICKR iPhone workout app for riders who already own the trainer and only want the cockpit: live power, ERG, heart-rate zones, and .zwo workouts. It pairs over Bluetooth Fitness Machine Service (FTMS). It is not Wahoo SYSTM. It is not Zwift. There is no map, no avatar, and no game world sitting between you and the interval.
Platforms are Apple only: iPhone, iPad, and an Apple Watch companion. There is no Android app.
Which KICKR models
Pairing is protocol-based, not a Wahoo lock-in. If the trainer advertises Bluetooth FTMS and you put it in third-party / FTMS mode, zCycle Pad can scan for it. Models people usually mean:
- KICKR and later direct-drive boxes (including v5 / v6)
- KICKR Core
- KICKR Snap (wheel-on)
- KICKR Bike / KICKR Bike Shift
We do not certify every SKU, firmware, or regional variant. If a unit does not appear, email hello@adamcodes.ltd with the exact model. The full FTMS list lives on compatible trainers — KICKR.
Honest lab note — we tested Suito T, not KICKR
The trainer we ride in the lab is Elite Suito T: FTMS power, cadence, speed, ERG, and grade simulation. That is the only unit we treat as lab proof. We list KICKR because Wahoo sells those models as Bluetooth FTMS trainers, and FTMS is the protocol zCycle Pad speaks. We do not claim a KICKR SKU was lab-tested here.
If you need a certified Wahoo stack — firmware, calibration, spin-down, or SYSTM-only features — use Wahoo’s own apps. zCycle Pad does not calibrate a KICKR. It does not replace myETraining-style manufacturer tools on Elite either. Get the trainer ready first, then open the cockpit.
How to pair on iPhone
- Wake the KICKR. Put it in Bluetooth / third-party / FTMS mode (not a Wahoo-app-only lock if your firmware has one).
- Open zCycle Pad on iPhone or iPad (iOS 17+).
- Scan. Pair the trainer. Optionally pair a BLE heart-rate strap as its own sensor.
- Start a free ride, a heart-rate zone ride, or a .zwo. Starting the ride needs zCycle Plus.
Apple Watch does not pair the trainer. Start the session on iPhone or iPad; the Watch mirrors watts, cadence, HR, and interval cues, and can pause, resume, or end the ride.
Trainer + heart-rate strap on Bluetooth, then Apple Health
Pair the KICKR over FTMS and a BLE heart-rate strap as its own sensor. zCycle Pad keeps both on Bluetooth at the same time and can write a complete indoor workout plus HR to Apple Health. That is the same wedge as on /zwift-alternative: many phone Zwift rides save with incomplete HR. We do not claim we lab-tested a KICKR — lab proof stays Elite Suito T. Trainers: compatible list.
What the cockpit actually does
Once paired, the phone is the dashboard. You see live power, cadence, speed, and heart
rate. ERG mode holds a target wattage so the trainer changes resistance
as cadence drifts. Grade simulation is the other control path: slope feel instead of a
locked watt target. Structured .zwo files turn intervals into successive ERG
targets. Completed rides on iOS can export to
Apple Fitness / Health.
That is the product. No virtual island. No group ride. No SYSTM training plan marketplace. If you searched for a Zwift alternative, this is the workout lane, not the world lane.
Why not SYSTM — and why not Zwift
SYSTM is Wahoo’s own training app. It is the right choice if you want Wahoo’s library, their video sessions, or a first-party KICKR setup flow. zCycle Pad is a third-party FTMS cockpit: pair, ride, watch the watts. Different job.
Zwift is a virtual world. You typically ride it on a computer or Apple TV and pay for the map. Public consumer pricing we last dated on our comparison page (7 Sep 2026) is $19.99/month or $199.99/year — verify current numbers on Zwift’s site. zCycle Pad is $4.99/month or $39.99/year to start rides, and the phone is the cockpit. Skip this page if you want races, avatars, or a group ride. That is Zwift’s job.
Price, platforms, and “local-first”
Download is free on the App Store. Starting indoor rides and structured workouts requires zCycle Plus — $4.99/mo or $39.99/yr, with a 7-day trial on monthly. This is not a “no subscription” app. Storefront prices in the app are the source of truth.
Ride history is local-first: sessions run on the iPhone or iPad and stay on the device. That is not the same as fully offline. You still need Plus to start a ride, and you still need Bluetooth to the trainer. Optional cloud sync is not required to train and is not the product today.
iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch. No Android app. No Wear OS. No Google Play listing.
FAQ
Is zCycle Pad a Wahoo KICKR iPhone app?
It is a third-party FTMS workout app that can pair KICKR, KICKR Core, and other FTMS KICKR models on iPhone and iPad. It is not Wahoo SYSTM and not a virtual world.
Did you lab-test Wahoo KICKR?
No. The primary lab-tested trainer is Elite Suito T. KICKR is listed as an FTMS trainer. Put it in third-party mode and scan.
Do you certify every KICKR SKU?
No. FTMS is required. We do not certify every Wahoo SKU or firmware.
Is this Wahoo SYSTM?
No. SYSTM is Wahoo’s app. zCycle Pad is independent and not affiliated with Wahoo.
Is there an Android app?
No. iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch only.
Do I need a subscription to ride?
Download is free. Starting rides needs zCycle Plus at $4.99/month or $39.99/year.
Does zCycle Pad calibrate the KICKR?
No. Use Wahoo’s tools for calibration and firmware. zCycle Pad is the cockpit after setup.
Can I ride fully offline?
The session runs locally and ride data stays on the device. Starting a ride still needs zCycle Plus, so local-first is not fully offline.
